The Uplands is a beautiful neighborhood with a mix of lovely single family homes and townhomes in a wooded setting. Full of nature, it’s common to see deer and foxes in the area. Wiehle Avenue and Lake Fairfax Drive borders the neighborhood at one end, and Baron Cameron and Lake Fairfax Park borders the other end.
The neighborhood has a great kid-oriented pool and a huge recreation area with two tennis courts, a full-sized basketball court, a baseball diamond, and the huge winter attraction of sledding on King Kong Hill. Buttermilk Creek Nature Trail offers a self-guided walk from the Uplands Pool to Hunt Club Road with beautiful views of the forest, meadow, and stream.
Lake Fairfax Park is in walking distance from several points in the neighborhood. The park has lots of recreation opportunities, including trails, fishing, swimming, boat rentals, athletic fields, picnic areas, a skate park, and campgrounds. If you walk towards the park when the first few evenings get warm, you'll be rewarded with the sound of Spring Peepers.
The Uplands is the quintessential suburban Reston neighborhood. It was ideal for our large family. The safety of the cul-de-sac for learning how to ride a bike, the freedom of letting the kids walk to school and to the pool – for us it was the perfect Reston neighborhood. Forest Edge Elementary School is in the area for the educational needs of the little ones.
