Celebrate the new year in Reston

The holiday season will be winding down shortly. As I make my final Christmas preparations, I'm already thinking ahead to what I want to do this New Years. Here are some ideas for celebrating the New Year in Reston.

Cocoa and Ice Skating

new year in Reston

Enjoy a warm cup of cocoa while skating at Town Center.

I do love watching the children skate while I sip a cup of hot cocoa. And you don't have to leave Reston for this one; just head down to the Reston Town Center Pavilion. The rink is open New Years Eve until 8pm. As for the cocoa to enjoy while you watch the children skate, there are several options. Starbucks and Panera have it of course. But you may want to try Ted's Bulletin or Pitango as well. Actually, you're celebrating the new year in Reston...try one from each place and see which is your favorite!

First Night Celebrations

Family friendly first night celebrations are among my favorites. Falls Church has a wonderful (free) one called Watch Night featuring live entertainment, activities for the kids and great vendors. Sure, it isn't Reston. But it is a lovely event, and it's just a quick trip down the Dulles Toll Road and 66.

Holiday Lights

One of my favorite things to do is enjoy holiday lights. We're lucky in this area to have two wonderful displays to visit: the regionally renowned Bull Run Festival of Lights (Tickets are $20 per car) or the extraordinarily breathtaking Meadowlark Garden's Winter Walk of Lights (tickets are $8 to $13 on New Year's eve. Click here to order). Both are open through January 4th.

Whatever you decide to do on New Years Eve this year, have fun and be safe.

Happy Holidays!
