Neighborhoods Guide

Reston Neighborhoods

Reston neighborhoods are rich in architectural style and detail and boast projects by some of the world’s finest architects including Charles Goodman, Cothiel Smith, and James Rosant to name a few.

The Dulles Toll Road bisects Reston, and Restonians identify their neighborhoods by which side of the Toll Road they’re on - North Reston or South Reston. Residents on both sides will tell you their neighborhoods are the best. Trust us—they’re all great. No matter where you live in Reston, you will be close to Toll Road and Dulles Airport, have access to miles of beautiful green space and pathways, and close to great dining and entertainment. You simply can not go wrong.

North Reston has a great range of homes from some of our largest and grandest addresses to more modest and charming townhouse communities.

Central Reston includes the Reston Town Center area, Lake Anne, and Uplands.

South Reston includes South Lakes, Glade, Hunters Woods, and other wonderful areas.

North Reston

North Reston the neighborhood is not to be confused with North Reston the “everything north of the Toll Road.” The North Reston area is roughly bordered by Baron Cameron, Rt. 7 and the Fairfax County Parkway. Architecturally, it’s one of the most diverse areas in Reston. A mix of housing types from small condominiums to very large estate homes, colonial style to contemporaries, lakefront property to homes nestled in wooded areas. Located minutes from Reston Town Center, North Reston provides a quiet complement to the bustle of the downtown area. Learn more about North Reston >>

Lake Anne Area

Historic Lake Anne Village Center is the focal point of Reston’s first developments. The Lake Anne area comprises everything between Wiehle Avenue and the horseshoe-shaped North Shore Drive, including the Tall Oaks area. While Lake Anne is primarily townhomes and condominiums, there are beautiful single-family homes along Fairway Drive and South Shore, and then again on Wedge Drive and Putter Lane (yes, there is a golf course in the Lake Anne area—the Hidden Creek Country Club). Learn more about the Lake Anne area >>

This beautiful neighborhood is boarded by Baron Cameron, Wiehle Avenue & Lake Fairfax Park. It is a mix of lovely single-family homes and townhomes situated in a wooded setting—in fact, you can walk into Lake Fairfax park from several points in the neighborhood. South Reston

There is much that residents of South Reston have to boast about. It is home to two of Reston’s four lakes—Lake Thoreau and Lake Audubon, as well as the Walker Nature Education Center (one of Reston’s gems). For shopping, you have South Lakes Village Center and the Hunters Woods Village Center—home to the Reston Community Center and CenterStage. And the Reston National Golf Course winds through several of the clusters. South Reston has a mix of housing types, from high-rise condominiums to luxury waterfront properties.
